Since graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School
of the Art Institute of Chicago three years ago, I have been diligently
working on developing my artistic point of view. The past two years
have been spent working from my studio at the Greenleaf Art Center
in the Rogerıs Park neighborhood of Chicago.
I am interested in creating images that are steeped in conflict.
The image of two people fighting is a powerful image and I enjoy
the multi-faceted symbolism it allows. Struggle and conflict are
so symbolic of all aspects of life from the shock of birth on through
to the bodyıs fight to stave off death. However, there are other
aspects of the imagery of conflict I find interesting. I am investigating
what motivates people to feel so passionate about certain ideals
that they would be willing to kill. The fact that there is something
so beautiful and precious that it causes such powerful conflict
is fascinating.
Beyond that I am somewhat of a student of creating space with my
compositions. I really enjoy the masters of composition such as
Willem De Kooning and Arshile Gorky. Their work creates levels of
depth on the canvas that I strive to achieve.
I have only recently become interested in media other than painting.
Photography and performance are new interests of mine that extend
my standard which includes mural and painting commissions.
